  Nord-Express/Viking-Express
Skrevet af jraaby, 16/5-2004 00:34 (#1)

I would like to make an activity of the 'Nord-Express' train or the 'Viking-Express' for Denmark 1.0b or Seeland Old. Does anyone have the timetables (køreplaner) for these? Also I would like to know what coaches were used.

Nord-Express: Paris - København
Viking-Express: Hamburg - Hässleholm (via Helsingør)

Here is a photo of the Nord Express:

I can't decide what route to do this activity on - I could use Seeland Old for before 1986 or just use Denmark 1.0 and not start in Rødby for the 1990s.
What do you think?

There are no French/Belgian coaches of the right type that I can find, so I shall stick to German ones.

In 1986 the Nord Express did start stopping in the new Høje Taastrup.

I will probably try to make it look like the picture above (DSB ME, B , Bk + DB coaches).
So far I am using the following coaches:
DSB B
DSB Bk
Dm - IC-Gepackwagen (should be SNCF Dm) (thetrain.de)
Bm - Peter Hanslip
ABm - Peter Hanslip
Bcm - ?? (bww-msts.de?)
Bcm - ??
WLABm - ?? (bww-msts.de?)
Bcm - ??
Bm - Peter Hanslip
ABm - Peter Hanslip

Bonjour,
Some remarks about the photo:
The third car is not a French SNCF DMS but a DB DM905 in interegio color scheme. After it, there is two DB Bm234 in the old intercity blue color.
The white stripe below the roof indicates us the following car is probably a DB WLABmh174.
The cars following the WLABmh174 prove the train would be probably the IC Ostende Kobenhavn:
We have a Belgium SNCB WLAB MU, a SNCB I5 "couchette" (easy to identify because of the white and pink stripes).
The two last cars were probaly olds SNCB I4 or the SNCB I6B(eurofima cars) in orange C1 livery.
From Ostende, the EC232 Nord Express had this composition:
SNCB WLAB MU (1st and 2nd class)
SNCB I5(couchettes) (2nd class)
SNCB I6B (eurofima 2nd class)
SNCB I6B (idem)
SNCB I6AB (Eurofima 1st and 2nd class)
There was also 2 I11A and 4 I11B limited on Aachen station
For MSTS only the germans car and the belgium I6 can be found to download. There is too a SNCB T2 who is similar to the WLAB MU.

About the french material used on the Nord Express and the Viking Express:
before 1980:
_SNCF UIC Y A9 (1st class) green and grey
_SNCF UIC Y B10 (2nd class)
_SNCF UIC Y A7D (1st class and luggages)
You can find it at : http://perso.club-internet.fr/staned/...rojetsesk/

_ SNCF UIC Y A9C9 (couchettes 1st class) green and grey
_ SNCF UIC Y B10C10 (couchettes 2nd class)
_ SNCF UIC Y A4C4B5C5 (couchettes 1st and 2nd class)
No MSTS models
after 1984 the SNCF UIC Y couchettes had a blue grey livery: There is a MSTS payware made by Sylium about this coaches called "trains de nuits"

_ CIWL WR (restaurant). MSTS contain this car
_ SNCF T2 WLAB in blue TEN color, easy to find on french MSTS sites
_ SNCF MU WLAB in blue TEN color, no MSTS models. The only MSTS reproduction is a WLAB MU from FS (Italy).

After 1980, the SNCF was using the following cars on the international trains:
Day cars:
_ Corail VTU A10 first class
_ Corail VTU B11 first class
Which exists for MSTS

_ Corail VU B6dd2 or B6ddu (2nd class, compartment for the train chief and luggage car)

Night cars:
_ Corail VU A9C9 couchettes (1st class)
_ Corail VU B10C10 couchettes (2nd class)
_ SNCF T2 WLAB without TEN logo
_ SNCF MU WLAB without TEN logo

On the end of 80s years, a new car called "cabine 8" was in use on the Paris Nord- Hamburg and probably Kobenhavn:
_ Corail VU B12U with ergonomics reclining beds

The corail VU were reproduced in all liveries for MSTS, but the french author of the cars destruct his job and stop all download permission. The reason of this was due to some remarks made by jalous and stupid persons on the frenchs MSTS forums. I had just the possibility to send you my modified archives of this cars, but I can not propose it to public download.

I have tried to search some photos (see attachment, photo of the viking express with only french material at Helsingor, probably int the mid of 1980s)

I have been with the NordExpress myself on one it's last days of operation. Both to and from Ostende, it had the following coaches:

DSB:
B
Ab

DB:
Bcm

SNCB:
2 blue/pink/white couchettes
1 orange seating coach

SNCF:
WLABmh

And that was in 1997.

There has also been a train from Copenhagen to Paris which didn't had belgian carriges.

It was as following:

DSB:
B
Ab

DB:
Bcm
Bcm
Bcm
Bcm
Bcm
Abm
Dm (blue/beige)
WLAB

SNCF:
WLABmh

I'm not quite sure if this was a ordinary train or not. Only 1 carrige was from the SNCF, so it could have been a special train.

Notes the EC31 didn't stop at the same station in France and Belgium than the EC30

To Mr Jraaby: I have made the consist with the grau licht grau Dms902 from bww-msts. It's possible to use the Dms905, the car is less realistic, but very good for AI traffic.

To Marc, probably it's an ordinary train !!!
In reality, the Nord Express composition seem to be very different all the time:
I have made four consists: D430, EC232, EC234 and Viking Express. I did not post all the screenshots, I don't want to overload the forum with a lot of pictures. An other reason for that, is the difficulty to have the entire train in the MSTS camera ! I have modified the camcfg file, but with the modifications, we see a lot of rails and a very small train in the horizon !!!
Like the Helsingor photo that I posted precedently !
Take a look to http://home.arcor.de/horst.ebert/inde...index.html
See Vogelfluglinie and Danemark, you will see some Nord Express compositions.

In fact, you are right: In reality, it an evidence that the Nord Express wasn't a real priority for the SNCF, SNCB and DB.
If we examine all the coaches that are used, it's an evidence that this not the more modern and confortable of this trains companies. For example, why the SNCF use UIC Y in 1995 with the Viking Express ? In the same time this coaches were retired from regular national service (your intercity trains in the Danmark).
The same UIC Y coaches in their Couchettes versions was in use with the Nord Express, but in France, this cars are used like their day variant as complement cars to forced the peeks on the week ends or during the greats departures on holiday (winter: February with supplementar trains to ski stations and on summer in july and august) and all the year for the TAC ( couchettes autotrain services).
During 1990 years (and it's not finished) the SNCF politics was to sink the national regular services at the profit of the TGV lines. The reason of that is the perfect rentability of the TGV lines.
In this years, the normal use of the UIC Y B10 and A9 is the regio services in France (we call it TER: Train Express Regional, trains that are chartered by the french Regional councils) . The only time I take a train with UIC Y B10 in France, was in 1994 when I was at the Law University at Nantes in French Brittany. The cars were used for 60 to 150Km services and the maintenance was not at the top. (for example, TER Pays de Loire -South Brittany and Loire Valley use this cars for relations from Nantes to Le Croisic, Nantes to Le mans, Nantes to Rennes,...)
The same remark is valid for the DB ? The Bc and Bcm were withdrawed from EC/IC services between Germany and France during this years. Why the DB use it for an international train between France, Belgium and Danmark ???
Why the SNCF did not use corail or eurofima cars ?
If we think that this relation is the longest for the SNCF and SNCB (about 15hours) it's difficult to understand something in the SNCF marketing politics.

In 1990 years, the Nord Express was a train between Ostende and Kobenhavn. The cars at the Paris Nord departure are time to time one or two WLAB from DB and some times from SNCF.
The DB use WLABmh type 174, and in 1995 one more time it's not the most modern and confortable in the DB stocks.
SNCF use WLAB MU or WLAB T2 (I use this car on my consists, the MU SNCF version does not exist for MSTS, curiously, there is no repaints. This type of WLAB was in the stocks of DB, SNCF, SNCB, NS, SBB CFF, OBB, FS).

I will post later some train compositions.

You write English very well even if you don't speak it!
Just a quick question:
What were typical 'consists' during 1990 in Denmark - for example typical IC trains, regional trains, goods wagons used etc.?
Specifically I am interested in the uses of the Ckm and WRm/WRM as they used a different model which was not of the UIC-Y type.

In most pictures, I have seen DSB IC with UIC Y (consist with 2 to 6 coaches), IR and regio trains with DSB Adn, Bn.
Sometimes, there is a mix with UIC Y and Bn.
The same cars are added to IC/EC trains to Germany.

I have seen only one picture of the Wrm, it was used in an international train with DB IC/EC cars. Like you, I'm interested by his possible use. I suppose that the DSB had not a great stock of it.

I don't know the Ckm coache.
